Choosing A Sunroom Roof

Are you thinking of adding value and beauty to your home by building on a sunroom? You can increase the living space and provide a new and lovely room from which to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors with a sunroom.

There are a number of advantages of adding a sunroom onto your home. First of all, it gives you extra living space but at a fraction of the cost of a regular add-on. You will have one more new and unique room that can be used for any of a number of functions, as a living area, dining room, or a social or play area.

You can make your sunroom large or small. It is entirely up to you, but even a small sunroom will add a lovely feel to your home. It allows the natural energy and mood enhancing of the sun to be a part of your house and gives you a place from which to enjoy it better.

When you are looking at sunrooms, you will need to determine what design you would like to go with. Sunrooms typically have regular roofs (rather than glass) but what you will need to decide in terms of the sunroom roof is what shape you would like it to have.

The most basic sunroom roof is a simple single sloping roof. This essentially gives you another box room. This may not sound all that attractive, but really, chances are most of your rooms inside already look like this anyway. It is nothing bad. From the outside the room will already look nice because of the glass walls.

You might also choose a gabled room. This type of sunroom roof definitely adds some appeal as far as appearance goes. From the outside it looks more like a mini home of its own and can be very charming. From inside the gabled sunroom roof might provide you with some extra head space and can also bring in some extra light from windows under where the roof meets, the gable windows.

Of course if you are having a custom designed sunroom there are a wide variety of different styles and ways you can have your roof made. There are glass roofs that are curved, and many other designs to choose from. If you decide to purchase a kit there will usually only be a few different types of roofs to choose from, such as the single sloped roof and a gabled one.

One important factor to consider when choosing your sunroom roof is what your house looks like and what will look best added on to it. Your budget may also play a role in the decision making process, as the more complex roof systems will require more windows and more difficult construction, contributing to the cost of the whole sunroom.

A good sunroom roof with be very strongly supported and should be able to stand up to the elements. Be careful with snow build up, but mostly your sunroom will not require too much by way of maintenance.
